The Sacramento Surge played back-to-back road games this weekend. The first game was against the Las Vegas Legends. Sacramento is 0-2 in their 2013-2014 season series with the Legends and were looking for a win. Las Vegas has clinched a play-off berth and is in the hunt for the Pacific Division title by gaining a half game advantage against the San Diego Sockers.
A rabid crowd watched the Saturday night game within the cozy confines of the Las Vegas Sports Park. The Legends took the first period by scoring three goals, outshot the Surge and kept them on their heels. The game blew wide open in Las Vegas' favor when they scored ten goals in the second. The Legends continued to pummel the Surge's defense by scoring five more goals in the third to put the game out of reach. Sacramento scored in the fourth period (a goal by Jaime Portillio) and kept the game from being a shut out. Las Vegas scored two more times to win the game 20-1.
Sacramento was out shot by the Legends 39 to 9 and were constantly on the defensive due to Las Vegas aggressive attacking offense. The team however improved on their penalty minutes but they will need to attack their opponent's goal consistently if they have any chance against the Toros. The Surge (2-9) will face the Toros de Mexico (6-5) this Sunday whilst Las Vegas (11-2) will face the Dallas Sidekicks (11-2) next Friday.
