Summer is almost here and some teens are considering summer jobs.  Lifeguarding is not only a fantastic choice, it is a great opportunity to make a difference in your community.  Jacksonville is known for all the fun in the sun beaches.  Lifeguards are part of the scene and an important part of them.

Many are not aware that teens can start lifeguarding at 16 years old at local summer camps and pools.  There are even programs for kids age 11-14 with GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow. GuardStart is a great first step toward a job as a lifeguard. The course includes lessons to develop aquatic knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete the American Red Cross Lifeguard program upon turning 15 years old.

If your teen or child loves the beach, surfing and fun, lifeguarding may be a perfect job for their school years and college years.  Contact your local Red Cross chapter to find out which aquatic facilities in your area offer Red Cross Lifeguarding, GuardStart and Lifeguard Management courses.

Your teen will not only feel good about their job, they will meet some great people and can add this fantastic job to their college resume.  Helping others is a fantastic way to build your own self-confidence.  Giving back to your community is part of growing into your future.

Visit the North Florida Chapter of the Red Cross for more information.
