On September 9th, 2012, during Helen Woodward’s 7th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon, Surf Dog Ricochet amazed the gathered crowds by her ability. Ricochet took first place at Del Mar Dog Beach while at least 4,000 surf, beach and dog-loving enthusiasts were present for the event.

That began Ricochet’s need for giving to others. When she won a year’s supply of IAMS Pet Food and Tagg, the Pet Tracker, she and her owner decided to donate the winnings to some very worthy pets at another needy animal shelter. Ever since then, Ricochet has been in the news. She even has books on the market. Her website describes all of the charitable events that she continuously participates in.

Take for instance the fact that she acted as an Ambassador for Life Rolls On “They Will Surf Again” Program for people with disabilities this past August. This dog surfed with several of the 100 participants on Augu23rd at the 9th Street Beach in Huntington Beach.

During the event, this special dog presented four new beach wheelchairs to those with disabilities. She raised over $8,000 to purchase the chairs with the help of supporters from her Facebook site.

Can you imagine a dog being such an advocate? But she is! Ricochet is highly regarded as the only SURFice dog® in the world who surfs with people with disabilities, children with special needs, wounded warriors and veterans with PTSD as an assistive aid. And she is a DOG!

People could really learn a thing or two about charity and volunteering from this wonderful creature! In addition to surfing and writing books she supports (and helped initiate) various other charities and is continually looking to help them further their cause. Just take a moment to check out here website for all of her activity with charitable events.

Who knows, if Ricochet had not surfed in the Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon, maybe she would not have gotten the attention she needed in order to help so many others with their dilemmas. And just think, this weekend the 9th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon from Helen Woodward Animal Center will take place at Del Mar Dog Beach on Sunday, September 9th. Which of the next winners will follow suit and do good deeds like Ricochet has done? One can only hope that another dog would draw this much attention to various charitable organizations in need!

Stay tuned as the adventures of Ricochet continue. You just never know, she may help support someone you love!
