San Diego is certainly proud of our own Surf Dog Ricochet. She has done more than amazing things in raising awareness and funds for human/animal causes since she first surfed with quadriplegic surfer, Patrick Ivison on August 20, 2009.
Twenty one months later, on July 25, 2011 Surf Dog Ricochet raised the $100,000th dollar for Patrick the Miracle Dog! Bringing the fundraising journey full circle! During those 21 months, Surf Dog Ricochet has held over 40 fundraisers, and raised funds/awareness for more than 150 human/animal causes.
Because of all of her work with a little help from her dog mom Judy, Ricochet will be receiving the ASPCA’s “Dog of the Year” Award this Thursday in New York City.
She, along with the “Cat of the Year”, and “Kid of the Year” will also be appearing live on the Today Show Thursday morning, November 17th.
The ASPCA’s Annual Humane Awards Luncheon, hosted by NBC news anchor Chuck Scarborough, will be held from noon to 2 p.m Thursday at the Pierre in New York City.
The ceremony recognizes animal heroes who have demonstrated extraordinary efforts, as well as individuals who have made a significant impact on the lives of animals during the past year. The luncheon is the ASPCA’s way of recognizing the important role animals play in our lives, the significance of the human-animal bond, and the people who make animal welfare an integral part of their lives.
For more info on all the award winners and San Diego’s Surf Dog Ricochet was chosen see the press release at aspca.org.
Let Surf Dog Ricochet inspire you to get out and do good things with your dog. Even something like finding events and running a local 5K with your dog may inspire others around you to start enjoying every day by wagging more and getting out with their dog for healthy fitness and exercise for both you and your dog.
