Surf Dog Ricochet
1 in 4 dogs are affected by cancer. Wow. That seems like ALOT to me. Like the human side of cancer the reasons have not exactly been determined.
My personal views are that diet, exercise and too many vaccines could be the cause... sort of like people. But who really knows. The good news is there is current research being done that is helping in the fight against canine cancer. The catch. It’s expensive.
Here are some dog cancer facts:
- During a dog’s lifetime approximately 1 in 4 dogs will develop a tumor
- Cancer in dogs is occurring at the same rate as humans
- 50% of dogs over 10 years of age are dying of cancer
- Fifteen years ago there was virtually no pet oncology; now the level of dog cancer treatment is similar to human oncology
- Available surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment is successful in treating many canine cancers
On 10 August this year, an initiative was launched by the Morris Animal Foundation to eliminate cancer in the canine population in 20 years.
Early detection and effective treatment is essential to give your dog the best possible prognoses.
Cancer treatment is expensive; consider starting a pet insurance policy whilst your dog is healthy.
How does this all related to our San Diego Surf Dog, Ricochet?
Well she is back doing what she does really well. Helping others who need a boost in their spirits and the funds!
Surf Dog Ricochet was recently injured in a little jaunt on the beach and has been relegated to rest with a cone on her head. Shame. She’s a little worried her butt’s getting a little fat while she’s waiting around being inactive so she decided to take on one of her projects.
Ricochet’s Canine Cancer Campaign
Despite my activity restrictions while I’m recovering from my injury, I’ll be VIRTUALLY walking in the 2nd annual K9 Cancer Walk benefiting the Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Cancer Campaign. Each day, from now until April 24th, I’ll be laying quietly at home while my body virtually walks miles (through my Canine Campaign) to raise funding and awareness for critical canine research.
Please help me help 1 in 4 dogs who are dying of cancer, or the many others that could be prevented from getting very sick from the effects of cancer.
