Ricochet, better known as Rip Curl Ricki is surfing today in Huntington Beach at the Surf City Surf Dog. Rip Curl Ricki has become the tandem surfing partner to 15 year old Patrick Ivison who is a quadriplegic since age 14 months when he suffered a spinal cord injury in an accident.
As it turns out Rip Curl Ricki the Golden Retriever not only has surf skills but is pretty good at fundraising as well. Patrick will be the official beneficiary of the Surf City Surf Dog Contest to raise money for his own service dog and for continued physical therapy in Patrick’s quest to better his physical being in any way he can.
It’s a very inspiring team. Ricochet was slated to be a service dog for people with disabilities through “Puppy Prodigies Neo-natal & Early Learning program”. But, because she has a strong drive to chase birds and other small animals, which could be dangerous to a person with a disability, she had to be released from that part of the program. A new fundraising initiative “Surfin’ for Paws-abilities” was carved out for Ricochet, and she went from service dog to SURFice dog, and is now fundraising for charitable causes like spinal cord injured, Patrick Ivison.
The Surf City Surf Dog competition where you can watch the Patrick and Ricochet demonstrate their inspiring tandem surfing is October 11, 2009.

Rip Curl Ricki has been doing an incredible effort in donating all of her efforts to raise money for Patrick’s own service dog. Its a cause that is well worth adding as a cause that is beyond well worth it.
