'Supremacy MMA' fails when it could have been good

For many fans of MMA, or mixed martial arts for those not up to date with modern sports acronyms, finding a good MMA game is not too hard. THQ's “UFC Undisputed” games have decent gameplay with great presentation while “EA Sports MMA” is quite the opposite. “Supremacy MMA” by 505 Games attempts to make a well-rounded MMA game for everyone, but it fails in all areas when it should not have.

The game tries to take an arcade approach, making it easier for players who did not like having to make complex button combinations or analog stick movements to perform simple movements such as moving around on the ground that other MMA games required players to do. However, the end product feels like it was not finished. Attacks have so much delay that it is impossible to follow up attacks with the accuracy needed to lay a real beating on someone. Reversing attacks on the ground looks simple, but the attacks are so fast that it is impossible to time when to reverse them.

Sadly, I saw potential in this game. I thought the idea of having an MMA game play more like a realistic fighter instead of a sports simulation was a great idea for a game and could make millions in the end since MMA has a large gamer fanbase. I still think the idea has merit, but “Supremacy MMA” messes up every part of good game from having generic rock music to having a story mode that is less believable than a straight-to-DVD Steven Seagal film. Someone else needs to take a stab at making a similar game.
