Supporting local music at Christmas time

See also

It’s getting to be that time of year—that’s right—that time of year when we scramble for last-minute Christmas gift ideas. For those who have music-lovers to buy for, there’s great news for you! As it turns out, there are plenty of local artists who would love to save you the trip to those crowded malls, and would be grateful for new fans.

Through much research, many of those local artists have been identified by their ability to, first of all, deliver a great product (their music); secondly, by their ability to play great live events; and lastly, by their ability to maintain working websites which act as wonderful platforms for the down-loading of their respective music and/or for the push of their respective CD’s (if that’s still your thing).

Here’s the best part: These local groups continue to play at the various local venues (usually with minimal or no cover charges) and would love the newly-founded fan-base(s), as a result of your last-minute, online Christmas music sales—sort of the gift that keeps on giving for all parties involved.

Over the past couple of years, Charlotte’s Music Examiner, via, has had the great privilege of exploring local talent at various events around town. The following are a few which stand out:

Jerry’s Bones

Burning Bright

Freeway Revival

Chosen Rejects

Garlic City

These groups work really hard to survive in today’s local music. Supporting these bands or a local genre of interest is a great way to stimulate the local business economy, a great way to spread some last minute Christmas cheer, and will keep these groups on tour and—most importantly—making great music! So, don’t be bashful, go out and buy or download a CD from one of your favorite local bands, today!
