Produce for Kids partnered with Philadelphia Giant Food stores to raise funds for the Healthy Schools, Healthy Minds campaign. The organization encourages “healthy eating for families by providing simple healthy meal solutions and resources for parents, while raising funds for local children’s not-profit organizations.” During the fall of 2012, over $169,000 was raised and the funds are now being allocated to support health wellness projects in the classroom. Giant has committed to matching the donations received through DonorsChoose.org.
Four of these projects are located in Philadelphia. “Squeaky Clean” at Alain Locke Elementary and “Help us learn about nutrition” at Joseph C. Ferguson are two of the available projects still seeking funds. Please consider making a donation by supporting these projects through DonorsChoose.org. Since 2000, this online source for classrooms has provided over $160,000 for books, technology, art supplies, and other resources for a sustainable learning environment.
Childhood obesity continues to be a problem with decreased physical activity and poor eating choices. Produce for Kids continues to make a difference in the long term health of our children and families by funding programs like these.
