The pretty, tree-lined shopping street in Pacific Heights is undergoing some changes. While some of the longtime businesses have recently shuttered, newcomers are joining the scene.
San Francisco's finest independent shopping district
The seven blocks between Spruce and Broderick Streets along Sacramento Street has long had a charming mix of independent retailers, boutiques, consignment shops, antique and vintage, interiors and home décor, art galleries, beauty and health salons, florists, jewelers, gift shops, services, cafés, restaurants, and bars. The landmark Presidio Library and the historic Vogue Theatre anchor the strip near the corner of Presidio.
Changes afoot
Among the 2012 closures or moves were Sonoma Country Store with a large array of gifts; Jonathan Kaye for babies and children, Circle + Square for women's accessories, Sarah Shaw and Catherine Jane for women's fashion, Birch the florist, Kensington & Associates interior design, and a move for Wynne Alex interiors to another location in the same street. Bath Sense moved around the corner to Presidio. Sacramento Street welcomed Hudson Grace, gorgeous home décor and design service. Locals say that Shabby Chic will open shortly at the corner of Baker Street.
Dining
Garibaldis, Ella's, Osteria Cucina Toscana, Spruce, Sociale, and The Magic Flute are popular restaurants. The Laurel Inn and the Jewish Community Center attract people from well beyond the neighborhood itself. There are a handful of comfortable cafés as well.
