The need for services for single moms is on the rise. Single moms need a variety of services from childcare to parenting education. Sarasota is fortunate to have an organization that offers a variety of services for single moms in the community. Our Mother's House is a non-profit organization that helps with many needed services, which include housing for single moms, educational opportunities, and help with finding good paying jobs for the women who access the services.
Our Mother's House offers seventeen programs that promote independence and prepare the children whose moms use the services to be successful in school. Educational services for children have been expanded by partnering with several early childhood education programs in Sarasota. Children First, Inc., Head Start, and Early Head Start have all partnered with Our Mother's House to provide early childhood education for the children.
Single moms are referred to Our Mother's House from several sources in the community. SOLVE Maternity Home, Pregnancy Solutions, and community churches refer clients on a regular basis. Doctors, hospitals, and social services organizations in Sarasota also refer clients to Our Mother's House.
The community is encouraged to provide donations. Financial donations are always welcome, and a variety of gift cards are appreciated as donations. Interested members of the community may call Joyce Scott at 941-485-6264, Ext. 101, to obtain information about making donations to the organization.
Fund-raising is also a part of the successful ability to maintain the apartments and services for single moms in Sarasota. Our Mother's House Wine Tasting Dinner and Dance will be the next large event to raise funds for the center.
