South Beach is always known for its hot scene, but heating it up even more this Friday night was international superstar (and favorite local diva) Gloria Estefan, who personally debuted her new Hotel Nacional music video at Score nightclub.
Perched on the stage above the packed dance floor, Estefan told the crowd, "I wanted to come here to thank the gay community because you have been here for me 100 percent." She then spoke about the video, saying, "This is my baby. I knew what I wanted from the very beginning and I am very happy with it. It's a little cult film in honor of cult films."
As she watched the video along with the audience, she smiled and laughed especially when the chorus, "It's time for hoochie coochie" came around. The crowd responded enthusiastically, screaming and applauding, and her iconic line, "The rhythm is going to get you," was heard.
Hotel Nacional, which is her second hit off her Little Miss Havana CD, debuted five weeks ago as Number 1 on the Latin Billboard chart, making her the first female vocalist to achieve this honor. The song also landed atop the Tropical Airplay list, where Estefan is tied with India for the most Number 1 songs.
Known as the Queen of Latin Pop, the multi-Grammy winning Estefan has sold over 100 million albums, performed for millions, and has received a multitude of awards and accolades. She makes her debut on Fox television's hit musical Glee later this season.
