Two legendary wrestlers and inductees of the WWE HOF are currently involved in bitter war of words. "Superstar" Billy Graham and Abdullah The Butcher have engaged in a public feud resulting from harsh comments that Billy Graham said a few weeks ago. Over the weekend, Butcher responded to Graham's comments in an interview with the Ottawa Sun:
"I helped Superstar Billy Graham when he was in Calgary. I loaned him money. For him to say I shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame is wrong. I still think he's a nice guy, but he doesn't know what he's talking about. What shouldn't I be in the Hall. They put Drew Carey in. What's wrong with me? I drew money all over the world?"
On Saturday, April 2nd Abdullah The Butcher was inducted into the WWE HOF. The ceremonies were held in Abby's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The Butcher is world renowned for his brutal and bloody matches. A pioneer of hardcore wrestling, Abdullah got his start in wrestling during the late 1950's in Canada. Abby would go on to have a successful career as he battled many of Wrestling's greatest like Andre the Giant, Bruiser Brody, Carlos Colon and Lout Thesz. Butcher never wrestler for the WWE but was recognized for his contributions to pro-wrestling as a whole.
Unfortunately, Superstar Billy Graham took offense to Butcher's induction. In fact, Graham has since said that he wants his name removed from the HOF and no longer wants to be associated with the entity due to Butcher's induction. Graham, a 2004 WWE HOF inductee, made the following comments to Slam! Sports:
"It is a shameless organization to induct a bloodthirsty animal such as Abdullah The Butcher into their worthless and embarrassing Hall of Fame and I want the name of Superstar Billy Graham to be no part of it. The WWE and their Hall of Fame is disgustingly embarrassing, I want out."
Since these comments a few weeks ago, Graham has remained silent. It's hard to disagree with Abby's response. If Drew Carey can be in the WWE HOF then why can't The Butcher? Unfortunately, many wrestling fans chalked up Graham's comments to someone just being a "cranky old man".
