The upcoming 20th episode of "Supernatural's" ninth season is going to be serving as the backdoor pilot for the "Tribes" spin-off, set in Chicago, and on Thursday, Feb. 20, TVGuide.com reported casting news for two series regulars.
Nathaniel Buzolic, who played the Original Kol on "The Vampire Diaries," is going from playing one kind of monster to another. He will be playing David Hayden, a shapeshifter who has left the monster life behind to live as a human. He's from one of the city's ruling monster families.
Meanwhile, Lucien Laviscount is going to be playing Ennis Roth, a police academy trainee who gets into the hunting business after his fiancée is caught in the crossfire and killed in the monster war. Sound at least a bit familiar, "Supernatural" fans?
"Supernatural: Tribes" follows Chicago's mafia-like monster families and the new hunter who is trying to get rid of anything supernatural in the city. At a time where spin-offs and remakes are everywhere on TV, will this one work? Only time will tell, but for now, it's clear the spin-off is following CW's trend of casting very attractive people.
"Supernatural" season 9 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on the CW, with episode 20, introducing these "Tribes" characters, slated to air April 29. What do you think of what's been released about the "Tribes" spin-off so far?
