'Supernatural' Torn and Frayed - There's more than just relationships at stake (Photos)

This week's "Supernatural" begins with Samandriel, first introduced in S8E2 "What's up, Tiger Mommy?" being held captive by Crowley. Demons are torturing him for information. Samandriel attempts to contact Naomi to let her know that Crowley is holding him hostage. The demons discover this and quickly move to keep him from making contact again.

Sam and Dean confront each other about Benny. Dean defends Benny insisting that Benny acted in self-defense. The wild goose chase he sent Sam on could have been avoided had Sam just trusted him. Sam replies that Dean asked him to believe Benny.

Naomi calls Castiel back to the White Room, instructing him to rescue Samandriel. Cass is to deny Heaven has any part in the mission, if asked. He immediately goes to Dean for help telling him that Crowley has Samandriel somewhere near Hastings, NE. An angel in that much pain, he says, will cause a series of strange incidents which they can use to find Samandriel. He then asks Dean about Sam, but Dean advises they will handle the case alone.

Amelia stops by Sam's hotel room. She admits she still has feelings for him.

The demons have put a halo device on Samandriel to gain information. As it's tightened into place he begins to scream then speak in Enochian. As he speaks we see a guy walking down the street. He hears Samandriel's words coming from a bush. The man leans in to listen and the bush bursts into flame, burning him extensively.

Dean and Castiel arrive in Geneva, NE. They question the burn victim who repeats some of what he heard before the accident. Cass realizes it must have been Samandriel. Dean suggests they begin at the crime scene and work outward to find where Crowley is hiding the angel.

Amelia and Sam talk; she tells Sam she can't continue to live this way. He has to make a choice: either stay or go. She gives him an ultimatum: meet at the same hotel in 2 days. If he loves her he will be there; if not then they are over for good.

Dean and Castiel track down Crowley's hiding place, a factory guarded by demons and covered in Enochian sigil. Dean says they need more help. Castiel suggests Sam but Dean refuses, instead going to Garth for help. When they arrive at Garth's boat Garth is nowhere to be found. Kevin is there. Dean asks him for more of the "demon TNT." Kevin tells him there is no more and the ingredients are tough to find. Castiel says he can get the ingredients.

Crowley is called in to help translate when it's realized Samandriel is speaking Enochian. As Samandriel continues to talk, Crowley realizes they've tapped into a deeper location into the angel's brain and wants to find out more.

Kevin continues to translate the tablet. Dean gets a call from Benny, asking for help. Dean tells him he can't right now, but will get in touch when it's over. Dean then asks Kevin about Mrs. Tran. Kevin says she was too distracting and has been moved to a safe place. He needs to focus on the tablet right now and can enjoy life later.

Castiel then reappears with Sam, much to Dean's irritation, and tells the boys they have to work together to resolve this issue. They drive to the factory. Cass says there are Enochian sigil at the four points of the building. He draws a symbol on Sam's hand. Destroy these, he instructs, and then he will get Samandriel. He hands Sam the angel blade telling him it can kill both angels and demons.

The boys work together, take care of several demons, and destroy the sigil. They hear Samandriel screaming and Cass says the angel has to be rescued, now. Castiel then covers his ears. He sees a vision where he's in the White Room, screaming in fear, a drill slowly moving toward his eye. He huddles against the wall in fear. Sam looks on, concerned. Dean and Sam then attempt to break down the door.

The door holds tight. Dean looks to Castiel for help. Castiel's still having visions of the White Room where Naomi, he realizes, is the one torturing him.

Samandriel lets it slip that there's an Angel tablet, which gets Crowley's attention. Sam and Dean break the door open; Crowley disappears. A demon fight ensues. Cass recovers and moves to help Samandriel. As he's removing the halo device Castiel begins to remember more of the torture in the White Room. Dean tells Cass to go. Cass reappears outside informing Samandriel he will take him back to Heaven. Samandriel cries, "They're controlling us, Castiel!" Castiel seems confused.

Naomi tells Castiel to kill Samandriel. He asks who's trying to control them and what did she do to him? Naomi gives him a direct order to kill Samandriel. Castiel obeys. "What'd I just do?" he asks, in horror. "You killed a traitor," she replies. She explains that he told Crowley about the Angel tablet and asks Castiel to imagine what the demons could do if they got the tablet.

Sam and Dean run to Castiel who seems out of it. Naomi instructs him to tell the Winchesters that Samandriel was compromised, attacked him, and Cass killed him in self-defense. The boys notice a bloody tear coming from Castiel's eye. He wipes it away saying his vessel must have been damaged in the fight. He bends down, puts his palm on Samandriel's body, and disappears. Dean and Sam look at each other, bewildered.

They return to the cabin where they draw sigil to prevent Castiel from hearing or seeing them. They decide someone's controlling Castiel. Dean then tells Sam to go to Amelia - at least one of them deserves to be happy. Sam leaves saying he needs to clear his head. Dean calls Benny and tells him it's the end of the line; they can no longer talk.

Amelia arrives at the hotel where she and Sam had agreed to meet. She opens the door to find Sam has not returned. She turns and leaves.

Sam hands Dean a beer. They both watch a boxing match on television in silence.

Wow. What did you think of this episode? What do you think is going on in the White Room? What was Samandriel trying to warn Castiel about? Who are "They" and why are they controlling the angels? What will Crowley do now that he's aware of the Angel tablet?
