'Supernatural': the structure for the season finale

One week after "Smallville" wraps up its series run with a two hour run, "Supernatural" will close out its own season with a two-hour finale on May 20. However, the finale for this particular show is going to be constructed rather differently than what we're seeing from Clark Kent and company.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Sera Gamble explained that these two hours will feel in some ways like two separate episodes rather than one contained arc:

“We heard pretty early that we should be prepared for them to air on the same night. We had so many threads to tie up this season, we didn’t end up telling one story that stretches over two episodes. Instead, they work as companion pieces and separate episodes.”

As for how the episodes will come together, Sam and Dean "coming together" is meant to be one of the integral themes for the two episodes.
