'Supernatural' spotlight: Spotlight on Crowley (Photos)

No one does evil quite as well as "Supernatural's" Crowley. Introduced in S5E10 "Abandon All Hope" Crowley (played by Mark A Sheppard) was the King of the Crossroads and second-in-command to Lilith.

After Lilith's death, Sam and Dean put Lucifer back in his cage in Hell. Crowley then took charge of Hell. Instead of the usual torture that one assumes would happen there Crowley had an entirely different idea: endless hours spent waiting in line.

After getting Hell squared away Crowley set his sights on a new project: opening Purgatory. It was his idea to use the souls trapped there to help swell his numbers. After God left Heaven Raphael appointed himself leader of Heaven and attempted to restart the Apocalypse. Castiel opposed Raphael's plans and agreed to help Crowley open the door to Purgatory in exchange for a set amount of souls that he would use to stand against Raphael.

Shortly after, Castiel began to have second thoughts. He backed out of his deal with Crowley, angering Crowley, which sent him straight to Raphael. They allied together to open Purgatory. Castiel, however, beat them to it and absorbed all of the souls including the Leviathan. Raphael was destroyed but Crowley was spared as Castiel had plans for him.

Crowley assisted Castiel until the Leviathan broke free of Castiel's vessel. Crowley then attempted to ally with Dick Roman, head of the Leviathan. Roman refused. Crowley then allied with the Winchesters, temporarily, to help end the Leviathan. Once that was done and Roman was returned to Purgatory, Crowley then broke away from the Winchesters taking the prophet Kevin along with him.

Crowley, it seems, wanted Kevin's help deciphering a tablet holding the word of God. As a prophet, Kevin could read and understand the tablet. He tricked Crowley by telling him that a spell he was using was going to open the gates of Hell when, really, it was a spell that would kill the demons holding him allowing him to escape.

Crowley's back this season and more interested than ever in the Demon tablet. He attempted, again, to force Kevin to translate the tablet but was thwarted by both the Winchesters and Kevin's mom. He then kidnapped the angel Samandriel and tortured him until he began to get information out of him that he could use to gain the upper hand.

One thing's for certain, with Crowley around there will never be a shortage of double-crosses. He always brings a bit of mischief, mayhem, and uncertainty to the mix.

So what do we know about Crowley?
