According to TVLine, it's looking likely that the season 9 premiere, airing Oct. 8, is going to be "100 perfect Cas-free." That's not exactly a shock, given that as season 8 ended, Misha Collins' character was separated from the brothers—and human!—and Dean (Jensen Ackles) was worried about his brother as Sam (Jared Padalecki) collapsed after they finally talked about one of their issues. As much as we'd like to see Castiel right away to find out what it's going to be like for him human—though we do get a hint of that in the five-minute sneak peek that is out—we expected Supernatural season 9 to begin by focusing on the Winchester brothers.
We did find out from Misha Collins at Comic-Con that when the season begins, Castiel is "marooned from the brothers" as he finds himself "in a bit of a bind" with the other angels blaming him for what happened. Check out our video interviews with the cast and EPs for more about what's coming up in season 9.
Update: It's been revealed that Castiel is in the season premiere, but he won't be in episode 2.
