'Supernatural' season 9 episode 21 preview: The angel war and the First Blade

Let's bring the focus back to Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), the matter of who is going to rule hell and what's going on with the angels after this week's episode introduced the possible spin-off in "Bloodlines." On Tuesday, April 29, the CW released a new promo teasing what to expect in next week's episode, 9x21, "King of the Damned."

The latest episode was almost entirely about introducing the potential spin-off of "Supernatural: Bloodlines," but at the end, Sam and Dean had to leave the city full of monsters behind when their own problems came calling. They promised to send in hunters, but Ennis (Lucien Laviscount) is of course getting involved. As for the brothers, Dean received a call and told Sam that Castiel (Misha Collins) had a line on Metatron (Curtis Armstrong), exactly what they have been waiting for, so it was time to say goodbye to Chicago and the monster families.

In the next "SPN" episode, Castiel (Misha Collins) captures one of Metatron's angels (Gordon Woolvet) and asks Sam and Dean for help with the interrogation. Dean is eager to accept, something Sam notices. Also, Castiel sets a meeting with Gadreel (Tahmoh Penikett).

Meanwhile, Abaddon (Alaina Huffman) demands Crowley (Mark Sheppard) help her kill Sam and Dean. When he refuses to help, she reveals that she has a shocking bargaining chip.

The "King of the Damned" promo offers a tease of both the angels and the Crowley/Abaddon storyline, with a side of Dean and the Mark of Cain. Yes, the war between the angels is likely happening. Oh, and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) offers up the location of the First Blade – but they have to do a little grave and corpse digging. That's gross. Plus, there's running through a cemetery, Abaddon showing off and more

"Supernatural" season 9 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on the CW. What do you think of this episode 21 "King of the Damned" promo?
