Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are going from old friends with Sheriff Mills (Kim Rhodes) in the last episode to potential new ones when "Supernatural" season 9 continues next week with the potential spin-off in episode 20, "Bloodlines." In the latest episode, Sam and Dean reunited with Sheriff Mills for a case involving a vampire nest. By the end, the entire family of vampires was dead. Well, the brothers will be dealing with families of monsters again in the backdoor pilot "Bloodlines," but this time, we're looking at shapeshifters and werewolves, and these families won't be wiped out by the end of it.

In this next "Supernatural" episode, Sam and Dean head to Chicago to investigate a case and discover various mafia-esque monster families are, unknown to humans, running the underbelly of the city. The two families are shapeshifters, run by Margo Lassiter (Danielle Savre), whose leadership is thrown into question with the return of her brother, David (Nathaniel Buzolic), and the werewolves, run by Julian Duval (Sean Faris).

While in Chicago, Sam and Dean meet Ennis (Lucien Laviscount), a man with a personal vendetta against the monsters (his fiancée is killed in the crossfire of the monster war) who refuses to listen to their warning about getting into the hunter lifestyle. This decision starts him down a dangerous path.

The "Bloodlines" promo shows Sam and Dean talking to Ennis in an interrogation room and finding out that five monster families run Chicago. "What we do, it's dangerous," Sam warns him. "You don't know the city," the newbie hunter argues. "I do." As you can see, there are monsters everywhere in the city, and Ennis' introduction to the hunting life wouldn't be complete without one of the monsters getting his hands on him.

Don't forget to check out the slideshow for 20 promotional photos the CW has released from this episode. These photos offer a look at the new characters, as well as Sam and Dean in Chicago with them, and what they appear to be hunting.

"Supernatural" season 9 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on the CW. What do you think of these episode 20 "Bloodlines" photos and promo?
