"Supernatural" returns after the winter hiatus (Hellatus - to the fandom) on the heels of two "People's Choice" awards. The show has won favorite Sci-fi/Fantasy show two years in a row. This year saw the introduction of a new category: Favorite TV Fan Following and I'm sure it was a heated battle but one that I feel was won before it began as the SPN Family took the win. The fandom for "Supernatural" is fierce and protective of its show and the cast/crew, but the cast and crew voted for the fandom, as well. The cast and crew voted for the fandom to show support and recognition of its hard work behind the scenes for the show. It was a 'family' effort and became a collective win.
The fandom has spent tireless hours voting for such awards as the PCA and even won the show the first ever TV Guide cover voted on by fans. The SPN Family is a force to be reckoned with and I think if they set their collective minds to a goal they could achieve almost anything. They collect for charities both human and animal, they support the cast and crew in their endeavors and they support one another. However, as with any family there is the occasional disagreements on characters or story arc directions, but for the support of the show differences are set aside and wins awards like the 2012 PCA when the show won the category for favorite network drama up against some big show's considered heavy hitters.
As "Supernatural" returns this Wednesday, January 16 to its 9 p.m. (EST) time slot after "Arrow" it returns with the rumored hope of a potential season 9. The CW President Mark Pedowitz said at the recent TCA panel for the show that he thinks "creatively the show's in a good place" he did confirm that Warner Brothers has finalized deals with Jared Padalecki (Sam) and Jensen Ackles (Dean) for seasons 9 and 10. Now, this doesn't mean that an early renewal has happened but all signs are pointing in a positive direction for a season 9.
The CW released a sneak peek clip for this week's new episode, "Torn and Frayed" and the title may be very apropos considering where viewers were left in episode 9, "Citizen Fang" before the winter break. The brother's were separated and there was clear friction and in the clip it appears Kevin Tran (Osric Chau) is a little 'frayed' around the edges, as well. I'm eager to see where the episode takes us and what it sets up for future episodes of the season.
Watch the sneak peek clip of episode 10, "Torn and Frayed" and pass the word that the new episode airs this week, January 16 on the CW. Also, congratulations to "Supernatural" for your PCA win and to the SPN Family for yours, too!
