Gemma Ward, an Australian supermodel who turned 22 last week, quit modeling amid a series of attacks from the media criticizing her fuller figure.
Ward’s agent announced the news this week, stating that the supermodel does not intend to return to modeling.
Pictures of Ward surfaced last week on fashion blog BryanBoy.com featuring the supermodel in New York. Though Ward looks healthy and fit, the photographs received numerous cruel comments noting her weight gain.
Ward received previous criticism for looking too frail, followed by criticism about weight gain in October 2007 when she walked down the runway in a swimsuit modeling Chanel’s spring line.
In early 2009 an Australian tabloid featured a picture of Ward in a bathing suit calling her a “roll model.” Click here to see the front page of the tabloid that criticized her weight gain.
Ward previously modeled for Burberry, Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Valentino and Yves Saint-Laurent, among others.
