Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, who covers the December 2011 (and first-ever) issue of Harper’s Bazaar Brazil, prays before eating meat because she feels guilty.
"What I find really helpful — you might think I’m crazy — is that before I eat any meat I always take one second of silence to put my hands over it and bless it and be grateful at least that it was a life," says Bundchen, 31.
Eats Meat Once Every 2 Weeks
The leggy 5'11" Gisele loves steak but also loves animals, so her non-vegetarian diet makes her feel guilty. As a result, Bundchen limits her meat consumption to once every two weeks.
Gisele, who was the highest-paid model in 2010, follows a healthy diet and does yoga, martial arts and strength-training to stay fit. Not surprisingly, Bundchen is passing on her healthy eating habits to her son Benjamin, 2.
"When Benjamin eats broccoli, he thinks it’s dessert," says Bundchen, who's married to NFL quarterback Tom Brady, 34.
Cut Back on Cigarettes & Alcohol
Since becoming a mom, Gisele has dramatically overhauled her diet and lifestyle by cutting back on smoking and red wine consumption (the Brazilian bombshell used to smoke a pack and a half of cigarettes daily).
As a result, Bundchen is healthier, fitter and happier than ever. Despite her busy modeling career and hectic family life, Gisele always makes time to pamper herself.
"People think if you look after yourself you're being selfish, you know," says the former Victoria's Secret supermodel. "But what Tom taught me - and he is a living example of this - is that in order to be your best, you have to honor your own needs first.
"If I honor my needs first, I will be the best wife, the best mom, the best sister, the best friend. I have to come first, because then everyone benefits."
