Alt, who graced the cover of the SI swimsuit issue in 1982, said Upton is a gorgeous girl, but has gotten way more media and fan attention than other cover girls who are just as beautiful.

"I like Kate," Carol, 53, told the HuffingtonPost. "She's a pretty girl. But all the girls are nice, and all the girls are pretty. And every cover, to me, deserves to be talked about."

What I don't understand with Kate is, what's all the hullaballoo? I think Kate is a product of great media hype. Without Sports Illustrated, I’m not sure she would’ve made it in the industry as a high-fashion model. I don’t think she’s in any way fat or overweight; she’s just more large-sized than fashion models are."

Upton, 21, made the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue in 2012 and 2013. Since then, Kate has gotten an enormous amount of attention — but not always the good kind. Fans rave about her bombshell sex appeal, while critics say the buxom 5-foot-10 blonde is fat and not in swimsuit shape.

Upton responded to the weight-bullying by saying she embraces her curves and refuses to be fat-shamed. "It’s kind of funny to think, 'Oh wow, the news is talking about whether I’m fat or not," she said. “It was hard at first. You sit there and you’re like, ‘Is something wrong with me?’ I’m not going to starve just to be thin. I want to enjoy life and I can’t if I’m not eating and miserable."

Meanwhile, the stunning Alt has barely aged during the past 20 years, thanks to a raw-food diet and yoga workouts. Carol, author of Easy, Sexy Raw, credits the raw-food diet for helping her maintain effortless weight loss, defying the aging process, and dramatically improving her health.

"I look at every meal as a way to heal myself and be kind to my body," she said. "Because raw food is so nutritionally dense, it’ll feed your body. A healthy diet is everything."
