HENRY COUNTY- During the September Monthly Study Session held Wednesday 4, September 2013, Dr. Ethan Hildreth declared his intent to retire saying, “Three years ago, the September 2010 Board of Education study session included as item H.1., the “Announcement of Superintendent of Schools.” The motion was made to approve me as Superintendent of Schools, and the Board unanimously approved the motion. I want to thank you now as I did then for this wonderful opportunity. The work of leading the school system has been exciting and rewarding beyond my expectations. I could not ask for a better team to work with, from the Board to the people here, to the schools and community. Thank you for your trust and confidence.
Since that meeting occurred in September, perhaps there is an appropriate symmetry in my announcing this September, exactly three years later, another item related to the Superintendent position. In this case, it is the announcement of my intent to retire from Henry County Schools and K-12 public education effective April 1, 2014, pending receipt of the final retirement letter from the Teacher Retirement System of Georgia. This is simply a notice, and no Board action is needed at this time. It is my intent to provide this advance notice so the Board has ample time to determine the next Superintendent of Schools. I am proud of the work our school community is accomplishing, and I know great things are ahead for Henry County Schools.
We have several months of good labor ahead on behalf of the students and families of Henry County Schools. For that reason, this is simply a notice of intent, and not a goodbye. I look forward to our work together in the coming months, and I will assist in whatever way best supports the Board and Henry County Schools during the future transition. Thank you.
