Super foods help improve our bodies. There are many great foods to choose from to help you obtain optimal health but there are a few super foods you may want to add into your daily or weekly schedule to provide you with an extra boost.

You've probably heard all the talk about super foods. What are they? Why are they so important? How can they help me? How can I add them into my diet?

The answers are easier than you may think. Super foods are mostly plant-based foods but also contain some dairy and fish. These foods are thought to be nutritionally dense and thus good for one's health.

Super foods are healthful and generally have no added sugars or preservatives. These foods are a great way to fill you up without providing excess calories. They are easy to include into everyday meals. They also provide many multiple disease-fighting nutrients your body needs.

When you eat them regularly, these foods will help you take in the daily recommended amount of vitamins and nutrients your body needs. In today's Americal diet we tend to lack many vitamins and minerals due to not eating enough fruits and vegetables. According to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines, Americans need to include more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low fat dairy products into their diets.

Important to point out we need to incorporate regular physical activity along with enough of the above foods to provide us with or help to maintain good health.

Portion size does matter, even when it comes to healthy foods. Always be mindful of what you are eating and how much you take in during the day. Be sure that all of your meals are balanced with protein, carbs and fats.

Some easy ways to incorporate more fruits, vegetables and whole grains would be to add some berries to your oatmeal or whole grain cereal in the morning. Make one of your snacks an apple with peanut butter or vegetables and hummus. Carry baby carrots, celery and fruit with you for those times when hunger sneaks up on you. Try cherries in your yogurt or green tea anytime during the day. It is quite easy to add these items to your daily menus and inexpensive too.

The benefits you will find are amazing. Eating a healthier diet has been proven to decrease the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and other health risks. If you already have a health condition, talk to your physiscian or a qualifieid health practitioner to discuss ways to improve your health. They can follow you closer to see if medication adjustments can be made or eliminated with a helather diet.

Some great foods to include are: Eggs, nuts, kiwi, quinoa, low-fat yogurt, beans, salmon, broccoli, sweet potatoes and berries. These all have numerous amounts of nutritional value for the body. If you don't already incorporate these, give them a try. Your health will thank you for it.
