Although we are sometimes led to believe that fashion revolves around women, men are just as crucial to the fashion revolution as well. On June 14, 2014, clear across the ocean in the land of London, a showing of collections got underway with London Collections: Men SS15. Over a period of three days, over 60 British and international menswear designers will rule the runway. The British Fashion Council has been instrumental in planning this seasonal event.
The first brand to reveal what they have in store for Menswear SS15 was Superdry. Superdry is a cultural collage of Japanese graphics, vintage Americana topped off with the values of British tailoring. Having a reputation for knowing just how to get the party started, Day One of London Collections: Men SS15 got off successfully and full of energy and vigor.
This is one event that draws a celebrity crowd who attend to support local designer talent and on this first day, the front row was star-studded with David Gandy, Mark Ronson, Bip Ling, George Craig, Jesse Metcalfe, Robert Konjic, Faithless and Lilah Parsons. A menswear icon in his own right, Mark Ronson played D.J. for the evening and rocked the lively crowd.
Tees, sweat pants, muscle shirts all glided into a Superdry summer. Polo shirts were worn with raised collars. Colorful swim trunks were heating up the runway as models walked the beat shirtless and yet, lightweight jackets took them from the beach to the street. The look was relaxed and leisurely and the baseball cap was a cool summer accessory for sure. Checkered shorts, solid shorts, khaki's and cargoes with pockets were made to suit the male personality. Suit jackets dressed up the casual short and tee. Jeans also are a terrific staple item to add to any wardrobe and Superdry drives that point home.
Over the next couple of days, some of the biggest and brightest menswear designers of all time will make their Spring/Summer 2015 debut with collections that shine with class and prestige. Designers that are sure to impress include Burberry Prorsum, the design house of Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane, James Long, Jimmy Choo, Moschino, Tom Ford and many, many more. The setting is scenic and historic in nature as London Collections: Men SS15 is held at Vauxhall Arches, legendary and ripe with history.
