Super Sunday plans? Here are five spots where game day is a winner on February 3 or for SF Beer Week, just a week away. There's something for every taste, whether you enjoy 'giant fun' at Lucky Strike or upscale sophistication at Urban Tavern.
The diehard 49er fans know that their first Super Bowl in 19 years is well worth watching. Superbowl kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. PST on Sunday, February 3, 2013 but you will want to get there earlier for the pre-game, which starts about 6 hours earlier. If you can't make it to one of these spots, you still will be able to watch the nationally televised presentation and pregame via CBS for pre-games including local affiliates.
Lucky Strike. Third street at AT&T Park. The ultimate SF sports bar was opened across the street from AT&T by SF Giants player Brian Wilson last spring. Wilson discussed the new bar with NBC news, saying "My job is to introduce it to Giants fans. I think it’s going to be a mecca of where Giants fans go and watch games." Wilson's venue is lined with flat screen HD televisions, making a perfect spot for a Superbowl party with 100 of your closest friends. The menu is impressive, as is the beer list. Urban Tavern, 333 O'Farrell Street, SF - Go for special cocktails being served in the bar, 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. This James Beard award winner is a business traveler's sports bar dream come true. Why not try a special cocktail like the Harlequin Fizz (gin, lemon juice, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, a dash of Midori and soda) or an Urban Tavern signature wine. 415.923.4400.
The Bus Stop, 1901 Union Street, SF - This iconic sports bar has been serving thirsty local sports fans for over 100 years. If you want to diss the Ravens, this is the place to go. If not, you might want to try the Blue Light Cafe down the block. 415.567.6905.
Abbey Tavern, 4100 Geary Street, SF - This is the home of Celtic football, and a 24/7 sporting spirit. The Abbey will be serving $4 Guiness and will have live music after the game. Throw a few darts or visit the upstairs lounge. HD televisions and big screen projectors are the way to go.
Beach Chalet, Ocean Beach at Golden Gate Park. The Chalet is offering half-price appetizers and brews, plus special bar bites. There's not a bad seat in the house for fans of surfing, great pub food, seafood and San Francisco's favorite sports event. Whether you sit inside at the bar, or in the new back room (see photo) with gorgeous views of the park, the Chalet will have your favorite brews on tap. Technically it's not a sports bar, but we're pretty sure that on Sunday it will be one.
Gordon Biersch Brewery, Embarcadero at Howard Street, SF - This swanky bar near AT&T Park has closed. Who knew?
