PBS KIDS Super Why! - Wonderrific Weeks

Just in time to keep your littlest one engaged in reading throughout the summer, PBS KIDSSuper Why! offers a month-long, literacy-rich lineup of programming starting August 3, 2009.

Preschoolers, via their television, will enter the creative two and three-dimensional world known as Storybook Village, which lies behind the bookshelves in a children’s library. There, they will immerse themselves in 24-minute interactive reading adventures each week in August and they will be escorted by a different storybook character who will share with them a specific literacy skill.

Alpha Pig, the little pig with alphabet power, will be your child’s guide for the first week of Super Why!-Wonderrific Weeks, August 3 through 8.

Episodes for week one includes:

A BRAND NEW EPISODEThe Three Little Pigs: The Return of the Wolf…Pig and his brothers are trying to make a picnic table for their yard, but it all goes terribly wrong! So the superhero readers visit the tale of The Three Little Pigs, hoping to find out a little bit about building from the young Poppa Pig. Will they learn how to construct something sturdy, or will the Big Bad Wolf huff, puff and ruin their plans?

The Emperor’s New Clothes….Pig is very embarrassed. Jill wants him to wear a bucket on his head for their game and he feels just plain silly! Super Why and his friends dive into the tale of The Emperor's New Clothes and meet an Emperor who doesn't want to look ridiculous either! Trouble is, his clothes seem to be invisible, and there's nothing sillier than a parade in your underwear!

The Three Little Pigs…..Jill keeps knocking down Pig’s tower and he wants her to stop! To find a solution, Super Why and his friends fly into the Three Little Pigs story and come face to face with the big bad wolf himself. After all, he knows a thing or two about knocking things down. When all the huffing and puffing dies down, Pig learns an important lesson about friendship.

Tom Thumb…Littlest Pig is ready for an adventure…but his brothers tell him he's too young! The super readers jump straight into the story of Tom Thumb, a guy who knows what it feels like to be little...really little! Tom Thumb is about to set off on his own adventure, and lucky for him Super Why and his reading-powered friends are there to get him out of a few scrapes. Can tiny Tom Thumb teach Pig a BIG lesson?

George and the Dragon…FE-FI-FO-FUM…the Giant has stepped on Pig's toy, and he's scared to ask for it back! In this episode our superhero friends venture into a classic tale to meet intrepid Knight George, who is about to face his own fears and battle a dragon to rescue a princess! But, it turns out that George isn't quite so brave, and needs a little help...from an unexpected source!

Award winning Super Why! stresses literacy first, and provides the basics for reading skills along with after-program activities that can be shared with your child, as well as additional resources for parents and teachers.
