I Corinthians 1:7-9 (NLT)
Now you have every spiritual gift you need as you eagerly wait for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns. God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
What does it mean to be spiritual? Does it mean you go to church? Or perhaps pray two or three times a week? Does it make you a pastor, worship leader, elder, deacon, usher, tither, or member? I don’t really think anyone is too sure of what it means. The word “spiritual” relates to the spirit and soul and not to physical nature. In fact, spirituality totally disregards tangible things. It is characteristic of sacred things. It is a relationship that remains intact strictly by a communication between the soul and spirit of those who are involved. To be spiritual implies a mind of a high and delicately refined quality often intimidating to ordinary people. There are those considered super spiritual who also hold the title of weird, spooky and somewhat crazy. People just don’t understand how someone can remain unaffected by the natural and totally consumed with the supernatural. However, those who have decided to embrace faith and make it confident hope are just those kind of people. I want to be super spiritual. It is not my intention to isolate myself or exclude other people, but rather my soul purpose to make a divine connection with God that can never be broken by natural things and is fortified by spiritual things.
God has given us every spiritual gift needed to eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ. We have the ability to remain strong until the end of time so that we will be free from blame when He returns. His Love, Mercy and Grace made such a way possible for even the vilest sinners to be set free. God will do this…let me say that again. God will do this! Oh what the heck! One more time…GOD WILL DO THIS! You don’t have to be perfect to be super spiritual just committed. In fact, those who consider themselves to be perfect or even close to it are the most spiritually blind of them all. (John 9:35-41) Jesus came to heal blindness and open deaf ears but it is not entirely as we have decided it to be. It is nothing for the healing touch of Jesus to open a physically blind eye or deaf ear. Piece of cake as He has the Power of Creation inside of Him making every cell of the human body obedient to His Command. However, too many times spiritual darkness, dullness and indifference get in the way closing our heart and soul to spiritual things making miracles, blessings and promises impossible because faith is hindered and hope is confined. We are spiritual people. God has empowered us with His Spirit who brings every spiritual gift necessary to be saved, sanctified and set free. So what’s your excuse? Don’t worry I have a few of my own…
Colossians 3:11-12 (NLT)
In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us. Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
When you asked Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of your life, you decided to be super spiritual. Now whether you have accepted His Gifts and chosen to use them is an entirely different matter. You are now a holy people which makes you sacred. No longer walking by sight but by faith, it is now time to concentrate on living in the Light. (2 Corinthians 5:7; Colossians 1:11-13) No longer do we rely on our physical senses, but our spiritual discernment. (Galatians 5:5) This world has nothing for you so why are you working so hard for the things of this world? We have a brand new life but it is not like the old one. It is a new spiritual life that will transform our natural life from the inside out if we accept the Holy Spirit and use the spiritual gifts for the transformation of our heart and soul. (Romans 12:2)
Matthew 22:37-38 (NLT)
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”
Human failure to make a spiritual connection with the Lord God has created a spiritual darkness in the Body of Christ. God is a Spirit. (John 4:24) You cannot connect with God on a physical level because your life is eaten up with sin. You cannot help it and neither can He. His Justice will not tolerate the presence of sin. You have been given His Righteousness through the Blood of Jesus as a covering to allow you access to God once more by His Grace. The purpose is to reconnect with the Father spiritually so you will successfully enter Eternal Life one day. How does one connect with God? “The LORD your God will delight in you if you obey his voice and keep the commands and decrees written in this Book of Instruction, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul.” (Deuteronomy 30:10) God’s Law is all or nothing which is very difficult to comprehend in a world of compromise. People go back on their word every day. Promises are broken just look at the divorce rate. We do not know or understand a law that does not have loopholes. God’s Law is complete and unrelenting. It is all or nothing. Break one rule, you have broken them all. This is why Jesus Christ had to come and pay the penalty for our sin whether it was one time or too many to count. This is why trying to fulfill the Law of God without living in right standing with God is futile. You cannot do it as a human being it is impossible or there would be no need for His Blood. So, now we live by the Law out of love and devotion to remaining in right-standing with God as Jesus has now made the way. How do you do that? If you turn to the Lord your God with ALL YOUR heart and soul. You must make a spiritual connection with God and stop just trying to do things right to be be right with the Lord and to become one. We are tired of trying to be good. We are weary of well doing without the desired results but the yoke we are after is the spirit which is light. In order to obtain it we must stop trying to physically connect with God and become super spiritual! (Matthew 11:28-30) Human beings and manmade effort will never produce spiritual blessings only God’s Spirit can do that! (John 3:6) We are trying too hard to be right rather than allowing the Lord to make us right!
John 6:63 (NLT)
The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
The Holy Spirit is a powerful force and fear often keeps people from acknowledging His Presence in our life. Why would Jesus Christ breathe His Spirit into someone if it was not beneficial, worthwhile or necessary? (John 20:21-22) If you ignore the Holy Spirit, His Presence and relevance in life, then you will not have eternal life. If you do not know and understand the Word of God, it is because the Spirit is not active in your life. He is Your Advocate. (John 15:26) He helps us understand the spiritual side of living. You need a relationship with God. You must have a relationship with Jesus Christ. AND YOU MUST HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. But beware from here, crazy, miraculous, supernatural impossibilities will begin to happen in your life outside of human understanding and personal ability. If this is what you are after, get in touch with God’s Spirit living dormant on the inside of you. Invite Him to take over. Rest in His Power, Ability, Knowledge and Wisdom. Rely on it. Use it. Let Him reveal seeds of faith to be planted to become deep roots of confident hope grounded in the massiveness of God’s Love for you. Outside of His Understanding and Revelation, you will never fully understand just how much God loves you! “When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” (Ephesians 3:18-20) Get to know God’s Spirit for He comes bearing gifts.
I Corinthians 12:4-11 (NLT)
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.
Never again experience failure and frustration. Life in the Spirit is one big success. Why do Christians fail then? Lack of faith in the Spirit of God living inside of them causes them to take unnecessary detours and experience certain delays. You cannot have God’s Best your way. You need the spiritual gifts of God to fulfill His Call on your life and experience the prosperity and promises that His Purpose holds for you. You cannot do this alone. I think God gives all people all gifts but our life is too short for our faith to stretch to believe Him enough to experience them all. Too often believers are worried about what others think. I promise if you begin to live a radically righteous relationship with God continuously turning your life over to Him and cultivating faith in every activity under the sun, you will lose some “friends”. They will stop calling because you don’t do what they do or backbite like you used to. Misery loves company but when you speak faith and blessing it has no interest in what you have to say. When they cannot illicit a reaction but only get a love response they are done with you. You may feel a bit lonely on the outside but as your spirit connects with God’s Spirit and His Favor makes it to you all those people who left you but continued to watch you hoping to see you fall will come running back to get what you have if it is indeed worth having. If you give up, throw in the towel, or walk away it only confirms doubt and suspicions giving false testimony of our God! He is able! He will do it. If you will accept His Gifts and use them in your life.
Ephesians 1:3-8 (NLT)
All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.
While spiritual gifts are to be used, spiritual blessings are to be enjoyed! God decided to bless you before you made your first mistake knowing that you would and He chose to do so just the same. God loved you first. He chose you before you even knew that He existed. God decided to adopt you knowing the mess you would get into and still said, “Yes!” He did it because He wanted to and gave the Lord great pleasure to do so. Where is the “me” in that? There is nothing I can do to be worthy of the spiritual gifts and blessings God has in store for me just position myself in righteousness to receive them. We are free to choose to live this life or life in the spirit. Why would anyone choose anything else? Lack of faith produces doubt. God didn’t give you the spirit of fear. In fact, there are many spirits not of God in the world today. (Colossians 2:7-9) Jesus Christ disarmed them on the Cross. (Colossians 2:15) We must serve the Lord in Spirit and in Truth (His Word) so that we can worship God as He intended and not manmade. (John 4:23) We must test every spirit for validity which requires spirit and truth. (I John 4:1-3) As the return of Jesus gets closer, more and more false prophets will come in the wrong spirit. Only Spirit-filled super spiritual believers will have the discernment necessary to make it to the end of the race successfully securing faith and confident hope that leads to eternal life. (I Corinthians 2:13-15) We must choose to be Children of the Light and leave spiritual darkness and unproductivity behind. (I John 1:5-9) Believers must commit themselves to spiritual growth independently as well as corporately. (Hebrews 5:11-12) No more screaming babies in church and I am not talking about infants. There is a real danger in the House of God and Body of Christ today. It is a group of people who believe they can see but live in spiritual darkness that will lead them to death. (John 9:35-41) Only those who connect with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit on a spiritual level and spend time growing and maturing will have any certainty when the Lord returns. You can live a supernatural life today but just not naturally!
2 Timothy 1:6-9 (NLT)
This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don’t be ashamed of me, either, even though I’m in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.
I want to be super spiritual. I want to be more in touch with God than anything in this world. I want spiritual gifts more than tangible ones. I want every spiritual blessing that God has designated for me as an inheritance. I understand that I cannot do any of this myself but must rely on His Spirit living on the inside of me to transform me and set my heart on fire. Because of the Gift of the Holy Spirit, I am able to experience love and power without fear and live for Jesus Christ each day in spite of myself. Thank you Lord for your Spirit! Now make me super spiritual!
John 4:23 (NLT)
“But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”
