‘Super Smash Bros. 4’ Wii U release date clarified by Nintendo

Nintendo has provided a response in regards to the latest release date rumor surrounding the Nintendo Wii U version of the upcoming multiplatform video game, “Super Smash Bros. 4.” According to a report from Complex on Dec. 14, the publisher disclosed that Bernd Fakesch was misquoted. The general manager of Nintendo Germany recently stated that the crossover fighting game, along with “Mario Kart 8,” will be coming out for the high-definition console in the spring season of next year.

Nintendo also added the original article has been rectified to show the previously announced “2014” release time frame. The company won’t be making any further announcements in regards to a more specific launch date for the sequel at this time. We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview. The original article has since been rectified and we have no further announcements to make at this time.

“Super Smash Bros. 4” was formally shown off at the 2013 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo. The latest installment from the popular franchise features a mix of Nintendo and third-party characters fighting against each other. Sora has partnered with Namco Bandai Games to develop the highly-anticipated title.

The sequel is also coming to the Nintendo 3DS handheld system along with the Nintendo Wii U console. The aforementioned Nintendo will be publishing and distributing the software product.
