Masahiro Sakurai has provided a short comment in regards to the rumored release date for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS video game, “Super Smash Bros. 4.” According to a report from Explosion on Dec. 16, the game director confirmed that the spring launch time frame is not real.

The rumored release date was originally mentioned by a general manager at the German branch of Nintendo. The company has since claimed that the spokesperson was misquoted during the interview. Masahiro Sakurai went on to state that the crossover fighting game will still be coming out in 2014. However, he did not provide a more specific time frame.

“Super Smash Bros. 4” is one of the more anticipated video games coming to both the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The first videos and screenshots for the project, which is currently in development at Sora and Namco Bandai Games, were shown off earlier this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

The latest “Super Smash Bros.” installment features a lot of returning characters along with a few new ones, including the much-requested Mega Man. The Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions are going to feature different set of stages.
