New details have been posted in regards to the “Super Smash Bros. 4” for Wii U and 3DS character roster customization. According to a report from Explosion on Aug. 28, Masahiro Sakurai re-confirmed that players will have the ability to modify their characters. The process is done through the “Custom” section of the menu.

The series creator revealed that the development opted to use “characters” instead of “fighters” when naming the feature as the former simply sounded better. On the “Custom” section, the player will be able to change the equipment, specials, headgear, outfit and powers. Masahiro Sakurai cautioned that players should set up the customization of powers before starting the Smash Run mode in the Nintendo 3DS game.

The “Super Smash Bros. 4” for Wii U and 3DS character roster is already quite big with a cast of dozens of fighters. One of the slots is for the Mii Fighter, which will let players customize the look and moves of their own characters. The customized characters can be used on any mode with the exception of competitive online matches. This is due some potential balancing problems that could be caused by Mii Fighters when fighting against the preset competitors.

The latest “Super Smash Bros.” installment features the biggest roster yet for the series with nearly 50 playable characters, including some that were recently leaked. Furthermore, Nintendo could also add more by using DLC packs. The company is already doing the same type of expansion for another first-party game on the Wii U, “Mario Kart 8.”

The “Super Smash Bros. 4” for Wii U release date is still set for sometime in this holiday season in North America and many other regions. Nintendo is planning to launch “Super Smash Bros. 4” for 3DS first as it is coming out on Oct. 3.
