The upcoming "Super Smash Bros 4" for Wii U and 3DS has won an award at the recent Gamescom 2014 event. According to a report from Gamer Headlines on Aug. 16, the crossover fighting game took home the most-wanted consumer award at the show. It managed to beat out other popular releases such as "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" "Destiny" and "Evolve."
The award should be a big indicator for Nintendo in regards to the sales potential for the fourth main "Super Smash Bros" video game. The company has been struggling trying to sell the Wii U console, especially in the European region. Being the most-wanted title at Gamescom, which was held in Germany, showed that a lot of customers in that territory are still interested in the software product.
The Wii U launched a year before the PS4 and Xbox One. However, the PS4 managed to quickly outsell Nintendo's high-definition console in terms of total hardware sales. Nintendo has been trying to right the ship with big first-party releases like "Super Mario 3D World" last year as well as "Mario Kart 8" earlier this summer.
"Super Smash Bros 4" for Wii U should be the biggest release yet for the struggling high-definition console. The crossover fighting game combines all the most popular franchises, as well as a few lesser known intellectual properties, from Nintendo. It also includes some third-party surprises such as Mega Man, Pac-Man and Sonic the Hedgehog as playable characters.
Nintendo is planning to launch "Super Smash Bros 4" for Wii U later this holiday season along with other complimentary accessories. The company will be releasing a Gamecube-type controller, Gamecube game pad adapter along with Amiibo figures. You can find a screen from the high-definition console version with the image near the top of this article (via the official Facebook website for the crossover fighting game series). "Super Smash Bros 4" for 3DS won't feature any of the accessories but will be released sooner with a launch on Oct. 3.
