Nintendo finally showed a new trailer for Super Mario 3D World during this morning's Nintendo Direct presentation. This trailer shows off a wide variety of power-ups and reveals this game's damsel in distress. It begins with Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad (the game's four playable characters), stumbling upon what appears to be a fairy princess. She is quickly kidnapped by Bowser, leading the gang into their latest adventure.
Fan favorites, such as the fire flower, tanooki and Hammer Bros. suits, all make a return. There's also the already confirmed cat suit, which allows Mario and friends to climb walls and pounce on enemies. The first of the new items shown was a magical cherry that allows players to duplicate themselves. Players appear to control each version of their character simultaneously, though one copy of Mario was seen going down an alternative pathway.
Mario is also seen wearing a Goomba disguise, which seems to let him walk through enemy territory undetected. Players can also ride in bobsleds, throw bombs and baseballs, and use Piranha Plants to attack enemies. Overall, this new game seems to have a lot going for it, and is brimming with more creativity and style than the early trailers and E3 demo let on.
Super Mario 3D World is coming to the Nintendo Wii U on November 22nd.
