Super Bowl ad rates set at all time high

Per NY television ad buyers, NBC has set a price of about $4.5 million for a 30-second spot in the upcoming Super Bowl XLIX. By all accounts this is a new record for Super Bowl pricing. It is estimated to be about 12.5 percent higher than Fox's initial pricing for the 2014 broadcast.

Super Bowl ratings have been consistently rising, with this past Super Bowl XLVIII reaching a record-breaking 112.2 million viewers , up 4 million from the previous year. This was despite the fact that the game paired two smaller market West Coast teams... the Seattle Sea Hawks and the Denver Broncos (did you remember who won?....the SeaHawks won in a blowout..

The Super Bowl was a major focus of NBC's Upfront presentation in New York earlier this month, when it was announced the game will be supported by a full week of programming across NBCU platforms. Translation: The price should include numerous additional spots in the non-game promotional programming.
