Your Super Bowl XLVII party may not have sucked, but that may only be because competitive eating champ Takeru Kobayashi wasn't there. In an impromptu, and thus unofficial performance, Kobayashi sucked an entire pizza down (embedded video) in one minute flat on Super Bowl XLVII Sunday.
A represenative for Kobayashi said that an unnamed Long Island man on Long Island paid the past (and most likely, future) eating champion to make an appearance at his 40-person large Super Bowl XLVII party on Sunday night. As part of the appearance package, Kobayashi had to perform an eating challenge.
Kobayashi selected his own stunt, and decided to attempt to break his world record for eating a 12-inch pizza (1 minute, 9.36 seconds). In the embedded video clip, Kobayashi downs the 12-inch pizza in 60 seconds flat. However, it wasn't an official event, so it won't become a new world record.
While it is unclear how much Kobayashi was paid for the appearance, his publicized rate for lunch or dinner events is $1,500.
Takeru Kobayashi, 34, is a Japanese competitive eater. He holds several records, including four Guinness Records, for competitive eating.
Wikipedia notes that he is surprisingly slim, at 5'8" and 128 pounds.
Kobayashi apparently decided on the personal appearance rather than defending his Wing Bowl 20 crown. In 2012, he set the record for most wings eaten at the annual event, held on the Friday preceding the Super Bowl, with 337 wings eaten. Kobayashi did not appear in the 2013 competition.
