Super Bowl XLVI Predictions - Giants-Patriots II: It's Time

It’s officially “about that time.” All the talk and all the hype will end early tomorrow evening as the New York Giants and the New England Patriots square off in Super Bowl XLVI. Over the past week we’ve taken a look at the genesis of the New York Giants and how both their defense and offense from the last Super Bowl match up with the team today. The injury reports for both the Giants and the Patriots are in. The webmasters for the Giants have slipped up. Now it’s time to play the game.

The Patriots are riding their talent and legacy into Super Bowl XLVI. The quest for revenge after having their perfect season cut short by the Giants 4 years ago has not been spoken, but it shows on the face of Tom Brady and company.  Coming into the game as favorites, the Patriots defense is going to have to stop Eli Manning and his wide receivers to have a shot. The trouble for New England is that their cornerbacks don’t match up favorably against Victor Cruz, Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks. If the Giants offensive line can hold the pocket and give Eli Manning room to breathe, the Patriots are going to be in for a long night. Considering the Giants got by two defensive powerhouses in the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers to get here, the Patriots are going to need some luck.

For the Giants, this game starts and ends with defense. The offense will deliver as long as the defense keeps them in the game. Not a single fan can forget the ferocious amount of pressure the Giants defense applied to Tom Brady in Super Bowl XLII and they’ve only gotten better. The big question mark is the man who has emerged as the biggest defensive threat for the Giants, Jason Pierre-Paul. In his first Super Bowl, will he give his team and fans a Giants moment to remember? This analyst’s gut says yes. That moment will be a safety on Tom Brady, a turning point in Super Bowl XLVI that leads to a Big Blue victory.

Prediction: Giants 22, Patriots 17
