Super Bowl XLIV comes to Fort Lauderdale, Miami's hot little sister

Super Bowl on Fort Lauderdale Beach
Super Bowl XLIV comes to Fort Lauderdale, FL

With the Pro Bowl behind us and Super Bowl week upon us, South Florida is already in high gear and super-bustle with Super Bowl hype everywhere. As the host city, an honor Miami has held no less than 10 times, it is just another NFL record held by our city and its team the Miami Dolphins, and we well know that it is our duty is to give the NFL players, coaches and representatives, NFL fans, the media, and everyone else involved, a week they'll never forget. And just like beating the Jets 2-0 this season, we know we're up to the task.

When people think of Miami, they think of the Miami Dolphins, the only undefeated team, ever, (think about that Rex Ryan) and then they think of South Beach. And while there's nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world, South Beach is not for everyone. Super Bowl fans and especially Super Bowl veterans have come to know Miami's hot little sister Fort Lauderdale. She may not have the reputation and flash of her big sister, but Fort Lauderdale is by no means the ugly duckling in the family.

Fine hotels, beautiful vistas, plenty of shopping, and hundreds of great restaurants and other assorted eateries, Greater Fort Lauderdale remains a legendary Super Bowl favorite without the hustle and bustle of Miami-Dade. Over the next five days leading up to the Super Bowl, this Examiner will share 37 years of experience living along the Gold Coast, to share with you some of his favorite spots to grab a meal or just hang out, the best places in Broward County, the "other" host city of Super Bowl XLIV. So come to Fort lauderdale, and bring your appetite.

Super Bowl Recommendation #1. Fly into Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport instead of Miami International. FLL (That's the airport code) is smaller than MIA (that's the other airport code), easier to get in and out of, and plenty of easy parking.

Super Bowl Recommendation #2. If you fly into FLL and when you land you're hungry, if you love Italian food, head three minutes north of the airport and make a bee-line straight to Anthony's Runway 84. (330 W SR 84 - for the cab driver).

Super Bowl Recommendation #3. Fort Lauderdale hotels, on the beach and throughout the city offer great prices and all the amenities needed to make your Super Bowl experience a winner.
