Super Bowl Wines & Predictions

See also

The Super Bowl is this weekend. Super Bowl XLVII. As you sit and watch this annual event, you will be eating all kinds of crap. Yes you will! Oh sure, some of the food will be good for you, but most of it is at best, homemade bar food.

There will be wings, oh yes all kinds of wings; BBQ wings, regular wings and a fan favorite, hot wings! Let's not forget the miniature hotdogs, chips & salsa, potato chips, nuts, foot longs, burgers, some kind of cheese dip and of course that one veggie tray that most people avoid like the plague.

So there it is. Your whole evening is sitting before you and the first thing that comes to mind is; dare I say it - beer. I know, when most people think "Super Bowl" party, they think beer. But I'm not most people.

Wine is what you really want. Trust me on this one. How else can you make a class act out of over buttered popcorn? Not with beer! But you combine that popcorn with a sparkling wine or Champagne and you have a real winner!

Maybe you're not sure what wine to have with your snacks. That's understandable, but don't let that stop you from classing up the party. Rise above the crowd and enjoy this time with some great wines.

If you are having brats and dogs, try a Malbec or Zinfandel. If chili is your thing, go with a Chianti or Merlot. Sparkling wine really does go well with popcorn, potato chips or chips & salsa. Pinot Noir can usually handle BBQ wings, while a batch of hot wings calls for a zesty Zinfandel or spicy Shiraz. If you really are going to eat that veggie tray food, then try a Sauvignon Blanc to wash it down.

There's probably not a wine store in Charlotte that's not having some kind of special on Super Bowl wines, so you have no excuse. Make this year's Super Bowl Party a better one, no matter who wins.

Speaking of winning, here are my predictions on this year's game. After analyzing all the stats and looking at the coaches, players, and team morale; I feel sure that the 49ers will win. I am thinking that they could win by as much as 9 points.

How did I arrive at this decision, well it was easy. The 49ers are closer to California wine country. The closer you are to the best wines, the better chance you have of winning. Hey, that's what happened last year.

So get out there and have a great time on Sunday. Go 49ers!
