Just when you thought you escaped the wrath of holiday indulgences, the next big ‘holiday’ arrives. Or at least, what many Americans would consider to be a holiday.
Super Bowl XLVII.
According to Fox Sports, about 1.23 billion chicken wings will be eaten this Sunday during the big game. Not a wings person? Domino’s Pizza estimates that they will deliver around 11 million pieces of pizza to Super Bowl viewers this weekend alone.
Yet it seems dips are the snack of choice for the weekend, as about one third of all viewers report that they plan to snack on some kind of dip while watching the Ravens take on the 49ers.
The good news is, sticking to a healthy diet plan isn't as impossible as it may seem, especially when referencing the above statistic. Odds are looking good that wherever your watch party may be, dips will be making an appearance. And with dips come plenty of raw veggies.
If you decide to stick with the chips, look for a healthier dip option such as salsa which is super low-calorie, or guacamole.
Another thing to be aware of is how you are consuming your calories. Sipping on a few beers may seem mindless and harmless, yet heavier, hoppy beers can easily clock in over 200 calories per bottle. If you don’t mind sacrificing some flavor for less flab, stick to the lighter beers such as Bud Select, which only has 55 calories per bottle.
So you over-indulged and polished off half the bag of chips? Don’t lose complete hope. Try standing and watching the game for awhile while doing some calf raises. Do some laps around the kitchen/bar/house, or run up and down the stairs a few times. Crank out some sit ups during the halftime show, or challenge your spouse to a push-up contest during commericials
Whatever you do, just remember moderation always helps. Drink water in between beverages to help yourself feel more full, and to prevent dehydration and hangovers.
And last but not least, enjoy the game!
