The New York Super Bowl Committee is looking for free help.
According to Peggy McGlone of the Newark Star-Ledger, the Super Bowl XLVIII host committee wants 15,000 to 25,000 volunteers to help with the event. The Volunteers will attend a training session, submit to a background check, and serve at least two shifts of three to four hours each from January 25 through February 3.
The Super Bowl has become one of the biggest events in the world. It generates millions of dollars for a wide variety of enterprises every year. It is difficult to justify needing volunteers for the event with all the revenue it receives.
The New York thing to do would be to refuse to be taken for fools. The simple pride of helping to put on the Super Bowl is what the committee is taking advantage of. Once these people realize that the people they work for can afford to pay, the volunteers may not want to work for free anymore.
It's only a matter of time before these volunteers show their New York colors, and give the Super Bowl Committee a piece of their collective minds.
