Super Bowl fans were worried they wouldn't get their chicken wing fix when a shortage was announced earlier this week. According to a Feb. 1 New York Daily News report, the crisis has been averted.
The National Chicken Council estimates 1.23 billion chicken wings will be consumed over Super Bowl weekend. That’s about for wings for every American.
While there has been a small drop in chicken production, possibly due to rising prices of corn and feed, a spokesperson for the council says there are plenty of frozen wings in shortage. However, he did say they will likely be a bit more expensive.
If you’d rather not fight the crowds to get your hands on wings or don’t want to pay the increased cost, there are other alternatives. Pizza, nachos, chili, chips with guacamole and sandwiches are all great Super Bowl snacks. Whip up some bacon topped cupcakes for dessert.
Still want that Buffalo wing flavor? Make chicken sliders with all of the flavors. Shred two cups of cooked chicken. Mix it with a ½ cup each of hot sauce and sour cream. Put out mini buns, cheese crumbles, celery slices, ranch dressing and more hot sauce. Everyone can build their own Super Bowl chicken wing sliders.
