Super Bowl 2014 ticket prices plummet, tons of rooms left: What's up?

Super Bowl ticket prices are plummeting along with the North East’s temperatures as the biggest sports event of the year now has tickets at cut-rate prices. According to Fox Sports on Jan. 25, right after the AFC and NFC championship games the Super Bowl tickets were in line to make history with their high prices.

Now prices have dwindled as the cheapest ticket a week ago would set you back $2,500, but today it is $1,600 and falling. StubHub is just one of the many ticket sellers that are selling Super Bowl tickets at a much lower price than last week. At StubHub the prices are starting at $1,595.00. That’s a big price slash.

What is turning the ticket prices around?

While the weather for the Super Bowl Sunday game isn't too foreboding, this doesn't seem to help the ticket prices from stabilizing. The forecast for the Super Bowl Sunday game from Accuweather.com is a high of 36 degrees with a chance of snow showers, but this could change. The Weather Channel also forecasts a high of 36 degrees, but they put the chances of a "wintry mix" at 80%.

People in the North East are experiencing a second wave of bitter cold with snow and ice once again and it is growing old. It could be that many are opting for their warm living rooms and big screen TVs to watch this year's Super Bowl game.

The possibility of a postponement lays heavy on folk’s minds. If you need to make travel and hotel accommodations, the price of the ticket is not the only expense you’ll have. This adds much more money to your trip to the Super Bowl.

If it gets postponed this can add another expense for prolonged accommodations and postponed flights, and that’s only if room and flights are available when you want them. This has the potential of turning into a nightmare trip due to the weather if it doesn’t cooperate with the big game.

The president of Goviva, the company that arranges packages for people and companies around big events, said that there are “tons of space” when it comes to room accommodations.

Prices of tickets are coming way down and hotels have “tons” of empty space, so this could mean big savings for someone who decides to go to the Super Bowl at the last minute.
