The Super Bowl 2013 live stream may not feature one of today's popular aspects of the televised NFL game: the commercials. This year's Super Bowl ads will be available for viewers to watch online though, both during and after today's game. Many of the ads have already leaked online including a controversial Volkswagen ad, and a steamy ad involving swimsuit model Kate Upston.
A report on Feb. 3 from Bloomberg Businessweek indicates that many advertisers have been streaming Super Bowl commercials online, in anticipation of getting more views on both TV and the internet. Some of the ads include interactive fan voting to shape the way the ads end up playing out on TV or online. That includes Coca Cola's ad with showgirls, cowboys and a biker gang trying to be the first "team" to get to a mirage of a Coke bottle.
The Vice President of advertising at YouTube, whose parent company is Google, recently said about why companies release their commercials on the web before the Super Bowl:
"You're more likely to remember the brand on the Super Bowl day if you saw the ad beforehand."
That's because the ads that get leaked out ahead of the big game typically bring in over 9 million views online, compared to 1.3 million views online the day of the Super Bowl.
CBS, who will be showing the game live on TV along with the ads, is also providing online live stream coverage of the Super Bowl. However, they also note several additional features. One is coverage of Beyonce's Super Bowl halftime show, and the other is the ability to watch Super Bowl commercials on demand. Full details can be seen here at the website.
Today's Super Bowl 2013 live game starts with pre-game hype at 6 p.m. EST followed by kickoff at approximately 6:30 p.m. EST with commercials airing during the CBS telecast. Viewers can also check out online video versions of ads here at Forbes.com.
