Another Cinco de Maio is just around the corner! Just like Saint Patty’s day, when everyone and their mothers are Irish. On Cinco de Maio everyone is, “de Mexico” (down another shot of tequila, adjust the sombrero, e Viva el Mexico!!) Honestly, Cinco de maio for most of us is just another excuse to celebrate something that involves drinking, hanging out with your friends and going to work hungover the next day.
American culture, especially the cuisine, has been strongly influenced by the Mexican culture, restaurants and Tequila bars on almost every corner! Fort Lauderdale has its own variety from low-end and convenient late night – last hope- hook up spots for the Spring breakers, T-Mex at 2nd street down town, that actually offer yummy tacos and freshly made Margaritas (as if you needed one more of those at 3:20 am)
There is also more upscale Mexican dinning, such as Roccos Tacos on Las Olas and Dos Caminos on A1A. With perfectly laid out bar and fancy Mexican décor, depending on how many tequilas shots you dare to down, you might even forget that you are in SoFL and imagine yourself in Cancun. The fun ambiance is perfect for a little happy hour escape on weekdays. The margarita jars are perfect to share, or after a hard day, have one all to yourself. Warning, that may cause you to be flirty with your very cool, but previously unattractive co-worker. However, it’s always easy to meet people and the food isn't bad at all.
However, Cinco de maio is not actually the day to go to those places. They will be extra packed, the service will lack. Thus, this year, why not wake up early and do something different that would justify all the eating and all those pomegranate Margaritas (don’t even bother with the skinny version) nothing better than a good run!
The Go Riverwalk foundation is sponsoring THE COLOR RUN 05/05/2013. It is only a 5K (for all the Americans still unacquainted with the metric system, that’s 3 miles!) No excuses! Make your team: coworkers, neighbors, girlfriends or even come alone, likely to meet people. Let’s support a good cause while having a healthy fun time.
Ladies Cinco de Maio is not a day to meet prince charming. Unless you would like him to be Don Jose Cuervo! Literally, walk down from the high heels, wear the freedom that Cinco de Maio symbolizes be open mind and carefree. On Cinco de Maio even cute ladies are allowed to have tequila shots –Jorjey! However, always drink responsibly, if that is even possible with tequila. And if it is meant to be- El destino - maybe Jose Cuervo is the Mr. Right-now. E viva Cinco de Maio!!!
