Sunset Junction Neighborhood Alliance threatened with class-action lawsuit

In the three months since Sunset Junction, the annual Silver Lake street festival, was canceled due to failed permits and owed fees totaling $400,000, ticketholders are continuing to chase their refunds from the Sunset Junction Neighborhood Alliance.

According to LA Weekly's music blog "West Coast Sound," frustrated ticketholders are now putting into motion a class-action lawsuit against the organization and its founder, Michael McKinley.

The lawsuit is led by tax law attorney—and Sunset Junction ticketholder—Michelle Stimson, who announced the plan on Sunset Junction's official Facebook page last week.

Although McKinley reimbursed about 100 ticketholders who bought tickets at either Echo Park's Origami Vinyl or the Sunset Junction farmer's market, the marjority of the ticketholders, who purchased via the Sunset Junction website, have not been refunded. As tickets ranged from $15 to $25, and VIP passes were sold for up to $100, the amount of money owed is estimated to be about $1 million, according to LA Weekly.

McKinley has not been heard from since the denied permit debacle in late August.

Stimson, who will not serve as counsel on the lawsuit, is not the only ticketholder vocalizing her anger and disappointment with the SJNA. The Sunset Junction Facebook page is cluttered with bitter posts, with ticketholders proclaiming: "You clearly stole money from us"; "I will continue to contact you until I get my $60 back"; and the simple yet poignant, "Karma, karma, karma".

There has yet to be a released statement regarding the pass refunds from the SJNA. If you are a disgruntled Sunset Junction ticketholder that would like to be a part of the class-action lawsuit, you can contact Stimson at MichelleMStimson@yahoo.com
