Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs offers a variety of activities for the amusement of beach-goers. Of course, there are the usual beach activities: swimming and sunbathing. Picnic lunches may be eaten in the shade of the shelter. Barbecue grills are available for cooking and a small concession stand is on the grounds for snack items. At the aptly named beach, one may view splendid colors as the sun goes down over the Gulf of Mexico.
Sidewalks traverse the sand, making the park, though not the beach, accessible to wheelchairs. Restrooms at the park are very clean. Handicap accessible restrooms are available as well. As with any beach restroom, floors may be wet and slippery.
Monthly concerts on the beach are sponsored locally. These performances are on Thursday evenings, and include a variety of styles of music. Past concerts have featured classic rock, jazz, and even Irish folk music. Concessions are available, or picnic dinners may be brought in. Guests should bring their own seating. Shows begin at 7 PM, but it is wise to arrive early as they are well-attended. For more information on concerts, contact the Tarpon Springs Recreation Division at 727-942-5628.
On October 5th, in anticipation of Halloween, Tarpon Springs Recreation Division will be showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show on the beach. Guests are encouraged to come dressed as characters from the film. Movie props, as well as concessions, will be available. The movie starts at 8:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 and tickets may be purchased through the Tarpon Springs Community Center.
Neither pets nor alcohol are permitted inside the park, but for those who enjoy the Gulf breeze and are looking for more than a typical beach, Sunset Beach is a great choice.
