Korean American actor Sung Kang ("Fast Five") co-stars with action legend Sylvester Stallone ("The Expendables 2") in the new action thriller "Bullet to the Head," from veteran director Walter Hill, opening in theaters nationwide on Friday, Feb. 1.
Stallone stars as New Orleans hitman James Bonomo aka Jimmy Bobo with Kang as Washington D.C. detective Taylor Kwon, who forms an alliance with him to bring down the killer of their respective partners.
Iranian-Mexican American actress Sarah Shahi ("Fairly Legal") stars as Stallone's daughter Lisa Bonomo. The cast also includes Jason Momoa, Jon Seda, Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje and Christian Slater.
Hill directed the movie from a script by Alessandro Camon based on the graphic novel "Bullet to the Head," written by Matz and illustrated by Colin Wilson.
According to IMDB, Wayne Kramer was originally hired to direct in February 2011. But after clashing with Stallone over the tone of the movie, he left the production and was replaced by Hill on April 11, 2011.
Thomas Jane ("The Punisher") was originally cast to play the detective role but when Kramer left the project, Jane suggested Stallone hire Hill.
After Hill took over directorial duties, veteran action movie producer Joel Silver came on board the project and fired Jane because he wanted an ethnic actor for the other lead role, which opened the door for Kang, who had previously played a supporting role in Silver's "Ninja Assassin" movie.
Kang will also reprise his recurring role as Han in director Justin Lin's upcoming "Fast Five" sequel "The Fast and the Furious 6."
