It’s almost that time again for probably the most popular fundraising race of the rear here in Cincinnati, the 17th Annual Susan G Komen Race For The Cure, Sunday September 14 at Coney Island Park. As always fundraising for breast cancer research is the main goal of this event and currently registered individuals and teams are up to about $66,000 of this year’s $800,000 goal for the Komen Foundation. Details on the foundation, the race and registration are available on the foundation website, www.komencincinnati.org. Online is the easiest form of registration as an individual, $35 for an adult or $30 as a survivor, and $17 for kids 12 and under, or to create a new fundraising race team. You can determine your fundraising goal as an individual or team participant. To register you are also welcome to go directly to the Komen Foundation office Monday through Friday 10am-5pm, 6120 South Gilmore Road (details on the website).
The race will primarily be sponsored by the I AM THE CURE program, www.iamthecure.org, which will have a booth at the race to promote disease prevention and healthy living by making what they call a ‘curemitment’. You can see on both the race and program website what this will involve for each young woman to devote to herself and healthy living and standards early in adulthood to be aware of risks and prevent breast cancer for herself. On race day the expo and registration and packet pickup will open at 7am along with early entertainment, and at 8:45 the 5K timed run will start. At 9am the 5K walk will start followed by the family walk at 9:20. The Coney Island rides will be open to all from 10am to 1pm. If you are looking to help raise funds for breast cancer research and education as well as have a great time with all these wonderful ladies, then take a great Sunday for a fun race and fun time at a local park!
